A word from PSA President Jimmy Wright
You’ve seen their accomplished art exhibited in past annuals and more recently as postings on the PSA/Facebook group page. Now the opportunity is yours to own a beautiful pastel by one of five extraordinary Signature artists. With each raffle purchase, you will contribute to the well-being of the PSA School for Pastels, home to 20 workshops, four on-going classes in 2015/16 and two Destination workshops, Mexico and Cuba, in 2016. One hundred per cent of raffle sales goes to the school operating fund for special projects—such items as an upgrade in the lighting in the studio and office to enable expanding studio space during sold-out workshops. Thank you for supporting the educational vision of PSA.

Helen Kleczynski, PSA
Beauty in the Beast by Helen Kleczynski, PSA
Beauty in the Beast by Helen Kleczynski, PSA

Michigan artist Helen Kleczynski’s paintings emerge from her background in architecture. Man-made subjects with interesting textures and abstract shapes include architectural details, interiors, landscapes, and found still lifes. As many older buildings weather and vanish from our landscape, Helen likes to preserve their beauty through her paintings; both classical and vernacular architecture inspire her to tell their stories.
Helen is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, a member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, and a member of the Northern Indiana Pastel Society. In The Pastel Journal’s 2014 Pastel 100 competition, her painting Porch Light won the Ruth Richeson/Unison Pastels award and her painting Rosewood Ribbons won fifth place in the Still Life category. Another painting, Just a Vessel, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Landscape category of Pastel Journal’s 2015 Pastel 100 competition.

FALL SIGNATURE SHOW UPDATE….Although October seems like a long time from now, we recognize that you are nonetheless planning your schedule….
Signature Members who cannot deliver their paintings in person for the Fall Signature Show will be able to ship their painting(s) to Gloria Vernon.

CLARK MITCHELL PASTEL/OIL HIGH-SIERRA WORKSHOP October 1-4, 2015  still has a few spots available – sign-up now to reserve your space.  The workshop dates will most likely coincide with the annual fall color display so this is a perfect opportunity!
If that weekend does not work, Thaleia Georgiades has an all-medium workshop October 10-12.  Treat yourself to an exciting fall adventure!

LET’S KEEP INFORMED! Members – if you run across any news that you would like to share with members before the September/October newsletter is published at the end of August, send that information on to Jennifer Eubanks (for the SPS Blog at jenneub90@gmail.com ) and to me (for an E-news update californiajohnson85@gmail.com ).

P.S. Have you ordered your copy of PSA’s Pastelagram yet? I have!
I certainly tend to work from photographs much more than from real life.  If 6 internationally-recognized artists have written about using photographic references, I’m sure I can learn a lot from them!  “Thank you” to Kathy Hall for making this opportunity available to us!
