Award-winning painting "Natura Morta" by Brian Bailey PSA-MP.

The following weekend, on Saturday, September 26, from 1-3:30pm, you will have a wonderful opportunity to see Brian Bailey PSA-MP, winner of the 2014 PSA Founders Award given by The Flora B. Giffuni, do a still life demonstration in the Grand Gallery. Bailey was also the recipient of the 2015 Art Spirit Foundation Dianne B. Bernhard Gold Medal Award.
Following a successful career that spanned several decades in New York as an illustrator, Bailey began to focus his energies on more personal artistic pursuits. Using the still life genre as a primary vehicle in his paintings to depict subtle metaphor regarding nature and its fragility. In his figurative painting he projects the burden of society through quiet gestures and the stillness of his subjects. Previously a professor at the School of Visual Arts for several years, he currently maintains a noteworthy private studio /atelier for budding artists who have a desire to pursue the arts and create contemporary images anchored in academic traditions.

Urania Workshop

Hi, everyone,

Urania Tarbet asked me to share information about her upcoming workshop with you.

It's called "The Law of Color Attraction," and will be held Saturday, September 26, from11am to 3pm at the Findleton Winery in Camino.

Workshop will include:  Lecture by Urania on the power of color as it affects every human's mind and lives though art, music, astrological correlations, color therapy in our homes and public surroundings.  Learn the importance of why we surround ourselves with a certain color, while that same color might be repulsive to another. Have you ever wondered who the people are that exerts the most control without our knowledge as to what will be the color of the year?  All this plus more fun tidbits on color will be addressed.

We All Paint After Lunch: Urania will give a short lecture on how to read the 'color wheel', and present a demonstration on the easy steps of creating a beautiful floral watercolor painting augmented with pen and ink for added beauty. Also a few art tidbits on pastel enhancement will be shared.  Each student will finish one small and one medium sized painting worthy of framing, to take home, admire and relive your exciting artistic day.

A box lunch will be provided to all attendees at an added cost...Please advise Pam when making class reservations. Wine tasting if desired.

Dear Pastel Journal reader,:

I know there are a lot of demands on your time. But if you haven't found the time yet to enter your latest, greatest pastel work into the 17th Annual Pastel 100 Competition, I would urge you to do so. Not for any one reason, but for the following FIVE reasons. It only takes a few minutes. And lucky for you, we've added a few more days to the deadline to September 8.
1.     The chance to earn recognition for your artistic efforts. It's a wonderful thing to have painted a successful work of art, but how much better it is if that successful piece gets recognized as one of the top 100 pastels by Pastel Journal-and then viewed and enjoyed in the special Pastel 100 edition of the magazine by the wider pastel community (20,000+)!
2.     The opportunity to win a cash award or material prize. In this year's competition, every entrant has the chance to win a top prize of $5,000 or another cash award of $2,500; a material package (generously sponsored by Jack Richeson & Co.) valued at $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000; or material prizes valued between $500 and $75, provided by Canson/Rembrandt, Great American Art Works, Terry Ludwig, Pan Pastels, and UART.
3.     You could be among the 70 Honorable Mention winners whose work caught the eye of thePastel Journal editorial team as well as our panel of Pastel 100 jurors: Terri Ford, Mario Robinson, Robert K. Carsten, Mike Beeman and Barbara Benedetti Newton. All 70 honorable mention paintings will be published in the Pastel Journal's March/April Pastel 100 issue.
4.     Anyone who enters the Pastel 100 today through September 8 will receive a special coupon code in their email entry confirmation for an extra 15% off purchases (with a few limited merchandise exceptions) at our online store, NorthLightShop.com, the best place to purchase fine art books and videos.
5.     Anyone who enters today through September 8 will receive a discount on membership to ArtistNetworkTV, which provides online access painting tutorials by a number of great artists (including Richard McKinley, Liz Haywood-Sullivan, Alain Picard and many more). You'll get your coupon code in your entry confirmation email.

Now that you have five great reasons to enter, don't delay any longer. Visit the Pastel 100 Competition pageright now!

Show me your work. I am eager to see it.
Sincerely,
Anne Hevener
