"Own the City" Banner Design Competition
Selected artists will receive $500 Honorarium

Dear Artist,

If you are a visual artist interested in creating public art -- even if you have no previous public art experience -- Blue Line Arts invites you to submit your concepts for the beautification of the historic silos at the Globe Mills building in Alkali Flat by Friday, July 10th, 2015Submit here

Nine selected artists will each receive an honorarium of $500 and ample visibility for their creations. Designs may address the eclectic vibe of Sacramento's Midtown/Downtown, noting Alkali Flat as both the oldest and (about to be) newest residential neighborhood in the city.

Artwork will be juried by Mike Paris, founder and president of BlackPine Communities-the developer of The Creamery at Alkali Flat, Curtis Park Village, and other neighborhoods; Burnett Miller, former Sacramento City Councilman and Mayor, and international art collector; Julie Hirota, CEO of Blue Line Arts and award-winning Arts Executive of the Year 2014 by the Arts & Business Council; and Ed Goldman, Sacramento-based writer, artist and art-collector.

Story Painting
Eva S. Nichols

What's your story and how does it relate to your community?  Sometimes it is difficult to express in words, so why not try painting it? After a brief introduction to the dot painting technique, you will paint your own story using some of the ancient symbols and creating your own! No previous painting experience necessary.
Tap into your intuition and express your experience of your community by using symbols & colors that inspire you.
Your story can incorporate anything from your past experiences in life to how you envision your future.  It can be about your neighborhood, your family, love, loss, and anything in between.

Eva S. Nichols is an award-winning watercolorist & instructor best described as an "impressionist colorist" inspired by nature. She strives to convey a mood and a feeling with her color choices, not necessarily to match exactly what she sees, but colored by what she feels. You can always recognize her use of bold colors and unique compositions. In 2009, Danish born Nichols was an artist in residence at Mendocino Art Center, which started her career as an art instructor. She has a unique ability to inspire students to explore their creativity and grow artistically. Nichols has won numerous awards for her paintings, and she was recently awarded Community Education Instructor of the Year 2013-14 by Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, NV.  Eva is part of North Tahoe Arts Artisan Shop, and was Artist In Residence at St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City, NV in the Spring of 2015.
